We don't close when it snows.
Most lodges around Crater Lake shut down October through May. We stay open. The cabins are heated, the vacation home has radiant floors, and Crater Lake National Park in winter is unbelievable in the quiet.

Common questions
Winter at Crater Lake — answered.
- Is Crater Lake Resort open in winter?
- Yes — we are open year-round. Cabins, vacation home, capsule, RV sites (full + partial), and the general store all operate through the winter months. Most other lodging in the Crater Lake area closes October through May; we stay open.
- Is Crater Lake National Park open in winter?
- Yes — Crater Lake National Park is open year-round, though Rim Drive inside the park closes seasonally (typically October – June). The south rim viewpoint is plowed and accessible most days. Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and National Park Service ranger programs continue all winter.
- Do I need chains or 4WD?
- Chains can be required during heavy storms on US-97 and OR-62 (December – March). Most days the highways are plowed and accessible in regular vehicles. Check ODOT TripCheck before you drive. 4WD is helpful but not always required.
- What is there to do here in winter?
- Snowshoe at Annie Creek Sno-Park (10 min from the resort). Cross-country ski. Photograph elk in the Fort Klamath meadow at dawn. Drive to the Crater Lake rim viewpoint. Soak in a cabin with heated floors. Visit the Train Mountain Museum (winter hours). Stay by the fire.
- Can I see snow at Crater Lake?
- Yes — Crater Lake gets some of the highest snowfall in Oregon. December – April typically has deep snow at the rim. The lake itself rarely freezes (too deep) but the surrounding rim and forest are blanketed.
- What's the 30% off winter promo?
- Cabin and vacation home stays are 30% off in January and February. Cancellation policy still applies (free cancellation 30+ days out). Use the booking link below — discount applies automatically.
- Is glamping available in winter?
- No — our canvas bell tent glamping is May 15 – October 15 only. For winter stays, book a cabin or the vacation home (heated), the capsule (with space heater), or an RV site.
- Are pets okay in winter?
- Yes — same pet policy year-round. Cabins, glamping, RV, and tent sites are pet-friendly ($25/night cabins, $10/night RV/tent). The vacation home is the only no-pet accommodation.
