Common questions
Before you make the drive.
- What's the address of Crater Lake Resort?
- 50711 Crater Lake Highway, Fort Klamath, OR 97626. We're on Crater Lake Highway (OR-62), 7 miles south of the south entrance of Crater Lake National Park.
- How far is Crater Lake Resort from Crater Lake National Park?
- 7 miles by road from the south entrance of Crater Lake National Park — about a 30-minute drive to the rim of the lake itself. We're the closest year-round lodging to the south gate.
- What's the closest airport?
- Medford (MFR) is the closest commercial airport — about 2 hours west. Portland (PDX) is ~5 hours north. Klamath Falls Airport (LMT) is just 45 minutes south but currently handles private and charter flights only — no commercial service.
- Is the resort accessible in winter?
- Yes — we are open year-round and the road to us (US-97 + OR-62) is plowed and maintained all winter. The rim drive inside Crater Lake National Park itself closes seasonally (typically October – June), but the south rim viewpoint and Annie Creek Sno-Park stay accessible. We have heated cabins, vacation home, capsule, and winter-open RV sites.
- Do you have EV charging on site?
- Yes — a Tesla Supercharger (13 kW) is on the property at the general store. Charge while you check in, while you shop, or overnight while you sleep. (Our Chargepoint Level 2 station is temporarily offline for repair.)
- Where's the closest gas station?
- Closest fuel is the Crater Lake Travel Center on US-97, about 13 miles south. Inside Crater Lake National Park there's a seasonal summer-only pump. Klamath Falls (40 miles south) has full-service stations + diesel and is the last major fuel stop before driving north into the park.
- Can I rideshare to the resort?
- Uber/Lyft coverage is limited in this part of southern Oregon. Most guests fly into Medford (MFR) and rent a car, or drive in from regional cities. Renting from Klamath Falls (LMT) is possible if you fly private/charter into LMT.
- What's the route from California?
- From the Bay Area or Sacramento: take I-5 north past Mt. Shasta and Weed, then OR-97 north to OR-62 east. Many California guests split the drive with an overnight in Mt. Shasta or Ashland.
- What's the best drive from Portland?
- Two ways. Faster (~5 hours): I-5 south to OR-58 east (Willamette Pass), then south on US-97 and east on OR-62. More scenic (~5.5 hours): via Bend on US-97 the whole way.
- Do I need chains in winter?
- Sometimes — depending on storm conditions. US-97 and OR-62 are plowed but can require chains during big storms (most often December – March). Check ODOT TripCheck before you leave.
- Where do I check in once I arrive?
- At the general store on the property — the round Crater Lake Resort sign out front. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM. If you arrive earlier, you're welcome to park and walk the property or grab a coffee at the store.
- Is there cell service at the resort?
- Limited cell service. We have complimentary Wi-Fi across the property for everything else. If you need bulletproof connectivity for remote work, bring a hotspot.
